Alternative process of fabrication in self-sufficiency applied to limestone.

During the exploration of the area, I discovered abandoned quarries in the cliff. There, the craftswoman of the sea proposed to view a natural phenomenon as a passive way to extract limestone: the erosion. Indeed, the wind, the sea and the rain enter in collaboration to excavate slowly the Cretaceous cliff as powder collapsing into the white relief.

Thus, as a craftswoman of the sea, Aurore Piette has designed containers whose shapes had been cast in the cliff topography in order to make them fit in. here, placing them in the corresponding rock shape, they get filled with the limestone powder and then collected. heated in the handcrafted kiln, the powder is metamorphosed into free lime.
Then, following a neo sand casting technique*, the topography is here used to offer a shape to this material.

Lors de l’exploration du lieu, l’artisane de la mer découvrit les carrières abandonnées au sein de la falaise. Là, Aurore Piette propose de transposer un phénomène naturel, l’érosion, au domaine du design en tant que moyen passif d’extraire du calcaire. En effet, le vent, la mer et la pluie entre ici en collaboration afin d’extraire la poudre de calcaire de la falaise.
Ainsi, en tant qu’artisane de la mer, Aurore Piette a designé des contenants dont la forme a été moulée au sein même du relief afin de s’imbriquer dans sa propre topographie. Ici, disposés au cœur de la roche, les contenants collectent la poudre de calcaire au fil de l’érosion. Ensuite chauffée dans le four à céramique, la matière est alors métamorphosée en suivant un neo moulage au sable (sand-casting). La topographie du lieu est alors également retranscrite au sein même de la forme des artefacts.
